Allright, so last night we took off to check out a car. It was about 30 minutes away. Jon has been wanting to get a commuter car. Something that costs less then the truck to get back and forth between work. (Which is about $200 a month...it will go down to about $100 a month, so the car will pay for itself in about 15 months) Well, this car is quite scary, and this is at night..where you can't even really see what it looks like, all evening and day I wondered what it looked like in the light of day. I was nervous to see it, but we had already agreed to buy it. Jon is NOT about image...he wants something that runs well, and will be cheap to operate. It's interesting how his point of view has somewhat changed over the years. I remember when we got our Plymouth Breeze. I think it was a bit about image way back when in 2000 (when we bought the car) Interesting that we payed probably around $14,000, after adding all the different bells and whistles (extended warranty, alarm system) for that Plymouth Breeze...then just over 6 years later with a fender bender all that $$ goes down the drain. (we bought the truck soon after that, and that is what he has been driving ever since) Well...fast forward to now, and take away a zero, and you basically have what we are going to pay for this car. $1,400. (plus an extra $100 for a nice stereo) (so just over 10 percent of what we payed for the Breeze) Jon is almost excited to start driving it, because I think it represents how far we have come in the last 8 or 10 years. He is secure enough to drive around a 10 year old BEAT UP vehicle...that looks like heck on the outside AND inside, but drives GREAT, has an engine and tranny that only have about 50,000 miles on them. The guy we bought it from is a mechanic, and pulled the tranny and engine from a wrecked saturn. And biggest bonus...we don't have to go into debt to buy it. We don't have to get a 5 YEAR loan for it. (that is how long the loan was for the Breeze)
Oh, the Saturn is a 2 door Coupe, and it originally only had 4 seatbelts, but the guy added a seatbelt in the back middle...where there are a couple of cup holders, you just put a pillow on top of it, and there you have a seat.
Our plan is to use it as a 'blank slate' to paint whatever we feel like on it, with washable paint. Our first project will be Halloween, of course...so, if we keep up with it, there should be some interesting posts and pictures here in the future. LOL
--Wow! I SO feel like a hick right now. ;) Well, this here hick has added a reliable car to the family, but no extra debt. yeehaw.

Nice score. You'll definitely have to send pictures of the car . . . painted or not :)
