Funny Family Moments

I decided to create a separate entry for some funny moments.

1st off, Monday morning at the campsite: Picture everyone sleeping peacefully...finally in the 'deep slumber' that is sometimes difficult to achieve while camping. Plus, the chill of the night is starting to wear off, so you are also not quite so cold. Then picture a voice in the early dawn saying 'hello, hello, hello'. Nothing happens...all else is still. A short while later you hear: 'Well, let's try a different approach' Then you hear in a sing/song voice: 'It's time to get up, it's time to get up, it's time to get up in the morning' And, no, it was not a take back in time when Mom (Anita) would sing that to us in the morning to get up for school...this voice was lower, and maybe not quite so in-tune...it was Curtis using the tactics of his Mom-in-law to get the camp up and moving. Cause it was 'SO LATE' in the morning...I mean the sun had been up for hours...it MUST be at least 8am. So, as the camp stirs, and gets ready to move out, Curtis starts the van and sees that the time is now: 6:16am. hehee...Ooops!

The 'Macaroni & Cheese' Discussion. Well, while we were at camp the 'Macaroni & Cheese' story was told to Shelley. It happened when I was probably about 7 or 8 years old. Mom and Dad had left Robert & Pauline to watch the younger children. They made Macaroni & Cheese for dinner. I happened to not like Macaroni & Cheese. Robert just couldn't seem to fathom the possibility. He emphatically stated: 'You like Macaroni, you like cheese...WHY don't you like Macaroni & Cheese??' And then he proceeded to make sure I ate my whole plate...and if I dropped even a small piece of macaroni to the side, he would add another spoonful to my plate. I am guessing this was more traumatic for me at the time...now I just laugh at each telling. Especially when others (i.e. Pauline, Curtis, myself) get into the story and elaborate a bit on the telling.

Of course with the 'Mac & Cheese' story being told, Curtis couldn't help but tell the 'Here Kitty, kitty, kitty' story. He says it has traumatized him for life. lol. Well, when we lived at our house corner-wise from the park, Pauline and Curtis had started dating...one evening they were out on the trampoline late, and I (as a young 15 year old) must have felt that it was time for them to come in for the night. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands, and I opened the window and let the cat out on the roof, so I could go after it. (as Curtis would tell it, I tossed that poor kitty out there..heheee) Anyways...I followed the cat out the window saying 'here kitty, kitty, kitty' and then I 'happened to notice' them on the trampoline, and decided to mention that maybe it was time to call it a night. I didn't live that down for years (still haven't...Curtis loves to bring it up)

Steven & George- There situation was EVERYONE was waiting and waiting and waiting for them to get back to camp with the 4-wheeler, so that they could get a turn. I mean 'REALLY, give someone else a turn, already', was the consensus...especially amongst the younger crowd. Well, they didn't come, and they didn't come...finally after about an hour or so they come rollin' into camp. Everyone was telling them how 'unfair' and that they shouldn't be gone for more then 15 min, etc. Steven says, 'all you were worried about was that we were -hogging- the 4-wheeler, you don't even care about that we might have gotten lost?' hehehe...their eyes were all red from riding in the dirt and sand so long...i guess they had gotten lost along the rim, or along the wash basin somewhere. Well, at least they made it back to camp without running out of gas.
