I took Zae and Ben to Superstition farms a few days back. It was a field trip for Ben's Preschool.
I always wonder what type of day Ben is going to have, when we go on outings like this. Well, at first he did pretty good, but then he got bored of just sitting there, and wanted to go out and see the animals. Finally we were able to go on the hay ride, and to visit the petting zoo. This farm had over 1,000 head of dairy cows. (which is their main function) And then they had a few other various animals mostly for the kiddos that come visit. 4 or 5 goats, 3 bunnies, 2 turkeys, 1 donkey, a horse, and about 3 dozen chickens.
Ben fell in love with on of the roosters, and kept on picking it up. There was also a larger hen that one of the owners asked if anyone wanted to hold. Ben was right there in front, wanting to hold it. The owner was a bit surprised that he would even try, since the hen seemed almost as big as Ben. LOL I think she was even more surprised when Ben actually took then hen and pretty much held it correctly. That's my boy. :) Zae did very well holding the chickens, too. She is my little chicken girl. I think out of all the kiddos, she is the one most fascinated and in love with chickens.
Ben wanted to go see the horse, too...that didn't work out as well. It was ok for just a bit, but then Ben really started to fuss and throw a fit. I couldn't understand why, but then he started patting his head. I then realized that he was getting over heated. With his black head of hair, and the sun coming down on it...and with his tendency to easily get over heated. All combined, led to an ornery little boy. He was instantly fine, once we went back to the shaded area, and back to 'his' rooster. :)
