Wow! What a day today has been! I will start with last evening. We had a great party, with a few friends and family over. We played some fun games like 'Worst case scenario', and 'Beyond Balderdash'. We had lots and lots of yummy snacks, and goodies. We also brought in the new year with some noise makers, and even a few fireworks. (shh, don't tell anyone. LOL)
Well, I was able to finally go to sleep somewhere around 1/1:30am. Jon was still up with work. (he had month and year end stuff to do. BLAH!) So, Jon didn't get to bed until around 3am. Around 5:20am the phone rings, it is my friend, Candace. I answer the phone asking, 'So is it the real thing? Do you need to go to the hospital?' Which she did, apparently. I said I would be there within 10 min. I REALLY should have had stuff ready to go! I haven't ever been in this scenario before. Packing a bag to go to the hospital to await the arrival of a new one. Our kiddos came at later ages...with a little more warning then 10 min. I started looking for things that might be useful, as I came more fully awake. Something to read, some snacks, water, pop, other various 'essentials'. Well, once I got what I thought she or I might be able to use, I had a pretty heavy backpack. LOL. I still was able to get to her and Armando within about 15 min. Unfortunately I forgot one of the more important 'essentials', the camera!!! There were some pictures I would have loved to take! I did have my camera phone, but it doesn't take that great of pictures..I should have still taken some.
On to the important stuff! My friend invited me in during the delivery. AMAZING! I get all choked up thinking about the experience...I can't really explain some of the emotions that I went through. Amazement at what our human bodies (both on Mommy's end, and on baby's end) can do. Wonder & Aw at this precious new life being born. Gratitude for life & happiness.
Ok...I also felt a little relief. Relief that I wasn't going through that pain. OUCH! Her baby was 10 lbs! She was born at about 7:30am...about 1 and 1/2 hours after we got to the hospital. Not a long labor, especially for such a big baby. Her name is Ana Maria.
