Poor little guy! Ben broke out in hives last week! We went to the doctor 2 weeks ago, and they started him on antibiotics, he had strep throat. Well, after being on antibiotics for 1 week, right in front of my eyes he was popping out hives! All over his body. I think even in his mouth. Cause he would wiggle hi tongue around with his mouth opened, as if it itched inside.
Here is my journal entry from Nov 13th, last week:
This morning, while feeding Ben I noticed that he had some red splotches across his shoulders...and practically before my eyes, they started popping out everywhere! He was breaking out in hives. Poor thing! I called and made an appointment with his doctor, and saw them a couple of hours later. By the time we got to the doctor's office the hives had popped out on his face and arms. When I told Ben that he had hives, he said 'bzzzz' and then said 'like a bee?' It was really cute.
Well, they told me to stop the antibiotics (which he has been on for about 8 days) saying that the hives are an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. He is now on steroids once a day, and bendedryl.
Over the last 2 weeks Ben has only been to school one day. Good thing it is just preschool. They are probably wondering what is going on with him. Last week I kept him out of school on Monday and Tuesday because he had spiked a fever on both Sunday and Monday, and you aren't supposed to send your kiddo to school if they have had a fever within the previous 24 hours. So, he did fine on Tues, except for I noticed a rash around his tube area, and his diaper rash hadn't gotten any better, so I took him to the doctor, they did a mouth swab, and put him on antibiotics. The culture came back positive for strep throat. I wish they would have checked his diaper rash. I have asked them, and they just prescribe an ointment. It doesn't seem to be clearing things up. Well, it's not as bad as it was last week...though now he has the hives, even on his belly and hip area.
If it's not one thing, it seems to be another with the poor little dude. So, I kept him home from school on Thursday last week, also. Due to the strep throat, and the rash around his tube area. I did send him to school on Monday, and they almost called to have me come and get him. His teacher thought he felt warm, the health assistant checked his temperature, and he didn't have a fever, but she asked if I had noticed the rash...I said that I had, and that the doctors had seen it, and he was on cream for it, and that part of it might be a reaction from the antibiotics. Tuesday was a day off from school (Veteran's day), and then he doesn't have school on Wednesdays. Then, of course this morning is when he broke out in the hives, so I didn't send him to school.
To top it all off, Ben's helper (Kelly) went to the doctor today, and found out that she has either Staph or MRSA. She has a sore on her leg, that has gotten worse, she doesn't know exactly how it happened. She thought it was a bite, but they said it was more an infection, not caused by a bite. So, she is on antibiotics for it. I hope that Ben doesn't have Staph or MRSA. I have been wondering about it with the diaper rash, but when I have asked the doctors have dismissed it...but why else would a diaper rash stick around that long? Especially when really the only time he wears a diaper is at night. (and a pull-up for school, but he usually still uses the toilet)
